The Struggle

What does it mean to be an artist? Is it about making a living from your art? If that is the criterion, I don't know many artists -- I know some who have done quite well, but not many. Is it about making art that a multitude sees? If that also is a criterion, then again, I know some but not many. Is it about simply making art - making art on a daily basis? Whether for ten people, for a hundred, for a thousand, for a million, or for yourself? Or perhaps just making it for the god of your understanding?

So much of the struggle is the self-talk - the question of worthiness, whether one is worthy of the label. What would it be to just be, without question, without doubt? To just be, and for that to be enough.

Today I will open my Word doc and expect to write one line and I will let that be enough.
